Plasma cutting

Posted March 18, 2011

Plasma cutting is an effective procedure for steel and other metals cutting. Plasma, an inert gas blown to high speed from a nozzle, uses the principle of thermal barrier, which consists in giving heat to the metallic material until it overcomes the melting point and breaks the continuity of the plate. It is particularly suitable for cutting metal sheet  in stainless steel and light alloys, thanks to a subtle and penetrating plasma column, can be cut  using relatively low electrical power. The minimum thickness that can be cut with plasma is 0.5 mm with acceptable surface conditions.

Since plastic is easier to mould and form when it is sufficiently warm  and it melts when it is heated enough, this kind of materials is called thermoplastics.
this is the main difference with other materials, called thermosetting,  which, once moulded ,can’t melt anymore and can’t be remoulded.
There are thermoplastics which are more elastic and others which are less: for example, buttons of our keyboard,   are hard while plastic around a computer wires,  is usually softer.
