Machine tools are machines that allow you to do the same work that can
be done by hand but with considerable savings of time and energy and
with greater precision.
Typical machine tools used in machine shops are lathe machines, milling machines, drill, grinding and planing machines.
Typical machine tools used in joinery are ribbon saws, circular saws, planing machines, and the sander.
One of the first machine tools invented by man was the lathe, in
particular the vertical lathe used for the manufacture of clay pots
(like the one you have seen in the movie Ghost).

The widespread use of machine tools has taken place since the early
years of 19th century when, with the advent of industrial civilization
in England, mechanical industries have spread whose main driving force
was provided by steam, later replaced by electricity.
